Sounding Futures

Collective Landscape Futures presents Sounding Futures

  • Wednesday 27 March, 2024 ย (6-8pm) ย
  • Stephen Lawrence Gallery, 10 Stockwell Street, London SE10 9BD, UK

Listening may foster gestures of compassion and care, enabling surprising forms of mutuality and empathy. ย This roundtable will open a speculative space for exploring sound as a vibrant matter, one that can contribute to emergent strategies.

We invite you to engage with sound and listening as methodologies, as practices, and as epistemological devices. Through presentation, discussion, sharing and listening together, we aim to follow these acoustic frameworks as paths toward evoking cosmopoetical futures.ย

Discussants includeย Brandon La Belleย (Errant Bodies Press, Berlin),ย Elin Eyborgย ย (P-ARC Agency)ย Ian Thompsonย (University of Greenwich), Palak Metha (University of Greenwich). ย Chaired by Roo Angell (Sayes Court & University of Greenwich) & Anushka Athique (University of Greenwich).

Collective Landscape Futuresย is a series of interdisciplinary roundtable discussions that critically interrogate the role of design practices in perpetuating systems of injustice, in order to explore how we can live, connect and share better. Each roundtable involves students, recent graduates, tutors and external guests and is held in front of a small audience. In bringing these people together we want to acknowledge that we all have different expertise, ontologies and priorities for the future. Our multiple identities, framed by the corporeal categories of gender, ethnicity, access, sexuality or our social, political and economic realities, influence how we discuss and design space. ย Collective Landscape Futures is a core project in the New Centre for Spatial and Digital Ecologies at the University of Greenwich.
