James Corner gave a very good lecture, ‘recovering’ one’s faith in the capability of landscape architects to do great projects which make cities better places. Also, he helped me understand what he means by ‘landscape urbanism’. I do not disagree with his view. But I tend to think of LU more as a design method than, perhaps, Corner does. The 2012 Queen Elizabeth Park illustrates the point: it is an example of ‘landscape-led development’ but I don’t see it as an example of a landscape urbanism design method – and I think it would be a better park if the methodology had been used (Corner was not the master planner).
