The Human Scale, a Danish documentary film released in November 2012, is focused on the quality of people’s lives in cities.
The Danish architect and professor Jan Gehl has studied the human behaviour in cities for 40 years. He has documented how modern cities are not created for human interaction and he argues that we could create cities which take human needs into account.
Jan Gehl has inspired the planning of Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen. His ideas inspired the city to create more walking streets, the building and improvements of bike paths and the reorganization of parks, squares and other public spaces according to human needs. He has inspired also other cities like Melbourne, Dhaka, New York, Chongqing and Christchurch to improve their urban centres and bring them back to life.
