Recent proposals for a new bridge across the Thames in London have been embraced by the Mayor. The design set out by Heatherwick Studio presents the city with a planted bridge connecting the South Bank with the Embankment. But as a concept design this proposal leaves many questions unanswered. It seems very heavy and lacking elegance. In addition, it is in close proximity to two existing pedestrian crossings on the Thames.
